2012 Committees

Below is a list of committees members and the function/purpose of each committee.

Awards Committee

The Awards/Recognition Committee is responsible for the oversight and implementation of various awards presented on behalf of the Association. This includes the refinement and development of policies governing various awards. Currently this committee oversees the following awards: Buford Watson Award, Virgil Basgall Scholarship Award, Fabulous Flops Award, Innovations Award, Career Achievement Award, and Public Service Award.

Conference Planning Committee

The Conference/Education Committee is responsible for organizing and coordinating the various conferences and membership education seminars sponsored by the Association. Since many educational opportunities are conveyed to Association members through the Internet, this Committee has also been assigned the responsibility to oversee the Association's emerging web page. Conferences and educational opportunities under current development include:

  • KACM Mid-Winter Seminar
  • Kansas University City/County Management Conference
  • KACM Fall Conference
  • ICMA University Seminar

Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee is responsible for the promotion of high ethical standards among Association members. Specific committee responsibilities include the following:

  • Investigate and provide whatever background information is required of ICMA regarding ethics violations allegedly committed by KACM members.
  • Recommend and support programs on ethics at KACM and other local government conferences.
  • Prepare and maintain a model code of ethics that can be adopted by local City/County governments.

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of a strong support network among Association members. Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • The development and implementation of a plan to recruit new members and retain existing members to the Association.
  • Develop and foster a program to assist the Association members who are in "transition."

Public Education Committee

The Public Education/Public Information Committee is responsible for the development and implementation of programs, workshops, and literature concerning professional management for cities and counties in Kansas. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Develop programs and provide resources to advocate for the adoption for professional management in Kansas cities and counties.
  • Develop and implement programs that educate primary and secondary students on the City/County Management form of government.

Strategic Planning Committee

  • Identify technology methods that will increase committee attendance without unnecessary driving to meeting locations, i.e. Conference Call, Web Meetings, and Pod Castings.
  • Prepare guidance for KACM to impact the discussions on Consolidation.
  • Develop a regional mentor program.
